Characteristics & Aims
General Objectives:
- To enhance S1 to S4 student’s proficiency
in English
- To provide a daily all English environment
to students with the help of Native English Teachers (NETs). Students shall
be able to experience and have a strong feeling of English being a part of
their daily lives
- To provide students with a good environment
to practice and to learn English in classes of small size
- To let students to have an enjoyable summer
time and to learn skills of teambuilding & leadership
1) NETs Bridging Programs -
for S1 in new academic year.
To maximize the use of coming summer holiday, we
provide an Interactive, Interesting and Intensive (3I)
study and experiential program for students of P.6 newly promoted to F.1.
Themes
- Our NETs Bridging Program has been
receiving good response from students, parents & schools over the past
couple of years
- The reason is that our programs are always
associated with interesting and attractive themes
- Themes, like:

Harry Potter
Miracle English Journey
Aims
The program will help students to:
- handle changing academic requirements and
demands effectively,
- familiarize students with the study
environment of secondary school,
- prepare psychologically challenges of
secondary studies,
- boost their understanding of subjects, such
as, English, etc…
- let student to have enjoyable summer
time
- promote self-knowledge, self-confidence
and self-efficacy of the participants through exciting role-plays and
activities in the program
Structure
- The basic format of Bridging Program
consists of 10 - 24 sessions of activities
- Each session will last for around 2-3 hours
with 1 or 2 short recesses
Structure
- A typical composition of activities will
include the following components:
lectures (~40%)
paper and pencil exercises (~20% plus some take home exercises)
individual student performance activities, such as simple personal
discussions, recitals, reading aloud exercises, and more (~20%),
group activities, such as TEAM BUILDING, role play, discussions, oral
reports, and more (~20%).
Composition of activities could be tailor-made to the needs of students and
schools
Shared experiences –We have created a ‘shared-experiences’ session as part
of our Program, so that our instructors (who all enjoyed interesting,
enjoyable secondary school experiences) can act as role models by sharing
their experiences, showing today’s students how they too can truly benefit
from a strong secondary education experience
Schedule
Programs are typically held on weekday afternoon
after school hours, or in the morning from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. We recommend
a 2 hours program.
- 1st session = 1st 1.5 hrs (45 min lecture +
10 min recess + 45 min lecture)
- 2nd session = balance 0.5 hrs
- Ideally, the timeslot should be allocated
near the mid to end of the summer vacation, to facilitate a smooth
transition into S1 classes

Study Stream
- English Language Learning
- Topics/modules could be designated by
school, or,
- Introducing topics of English textbook that
students are going to learn in coming academic year
- PLUS lots of fun English activities
Medium of Instruction
- An all-English medium of instruction is
suggested for the English Bridging Program at your school; this will allow
students to become more familiar with English in the classroom
Instructors
- Instructors are graduates or seniors of
Hong Kong Institute of Education, Education Department of various
universities in Hong Kong or overseas. All instructors are experienced in
teaching and have received adequate training in education theories, child
psychology and motivational techniques. Native English speakers are also
involved in the part of oral English training. All instructors have received
training and are continuously monitored by, including on-site team teaching
with Bridging Program Coordinators, to ensure highly effective programs.
Suggested Student Numbers
- A typical class is expected to accommodate
no more than 25 students, to allow for focused student/teacher interaction
and individual attention
2) English Enhancement Program: Team Building for S2 in new
academic year
Characteristics and Aims
- To provide an all-English and stimulating
environment for participants to experience the fun of using English
- Introducing English Language Arts to
students
- Prepare students for English subjects in
new academic year
- To let student to have an enjoyable time
and to learn exciting skills, for instance, of Teambuilding & Leadership
- To promote self-knowledge, self-confidence
and self-efficacy of the participants through exciting role-plays and
activities in the program

Structure

of fun English activities

- Role-play to build team spirits
- Enable the participating students to explore self-knowledge,
self-confidence and self-efficacy.
- Major events will be arranged in order to let the students to field
experiencing the discussed concepts in person
Medium of Instruction
- An all-English medium of instruction is
used
Materials
- Standard set of teaching materials, which
includes focused exercises in English (text-book of coming academic year
could be used according to request of school)
- Tailor-made supplementary materials will be
added according school’s needs
Awards
- Awards will be given to students who have
proven themselves great leaders, show great responsibilities to their duties
and great concern to other fellow students
Flexibilities
- The content of teaching could be varied
according to the instruction of schools
- It could be, in extreme case, 100% fun
English activities. Some schools would like students to enjoy a very
relaxing summer and great memories events of English activities in summer.
3) TSA Program for S3 in new academic year
The Program
- The structure of the program will be
similar to English Enhancement Programs
- It includes, lectures and activities
- With the fun English activities, students
will find English is not only a subject to learn. It is actually part of
their daily lives! They can use and Lean English in a natural way!

4) Cambridge PET for S4 in
new academic year
CAMBRIDGE PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST (PET)
(organized by University of Cambridge, English for Speakers of Other Languages,
ESOL)
- PET is an internationally recognized
English language qualification at ALTE level 2. It assesses candidates’
language skills at lower-intermediate level. At this level, learners should
be able to cope linguistically in a range of everyday situations that
require use of English in their own or a foreign country, in contact with
native and non-native speakers of the language
Key recognition messages for KET and PET
- KET and PET are being used by approximately
300 corporations around the world including international companies like
Siemens, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Saab, Coca-Cola, GlaxoSmithKline and Cable
and Wireless.
- KET and PET are recognized by approximately
100 higher/further education institutions around the world
- KET and PET are linked to the Council of
Europe Common European Framework.
- In the UK, KET and PET have been accredited
by the Qualifications and Curriculum into the National Qualifications
Framework.
- PET, is being used in secondary schools
across a number of regions in Germany as part of projects initiated by the
Ministry.
- KET and PET are being used to assess
English language ability by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.
CAMBRIDGE PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST (PET)
- PET could be a very useful tool and
exercise for students of your schools to familiarize with the new changes on
English Syllabuses, HKCEE examinations in 2007
- Just like the new syllabus, Grading of
ability of students in PET tests is based on actual marks scored in the
examination
- Mock tests on both speaking and writing are
offered to students by our NET examiners
